WHAT’S ON THE MENU?

·         Vegetable Manchurian - deep fried mixed vegetable balls tossed with the chef's special Indo-Chinese style sauce ($8.95)

·         Lamb Bhuna Gosht - boneless pieces of lamb cooked in a house made tomato and onion based gravy with freshly ground spices ($13.95)

·         Bhindi Do Pyaza - cut okra cooked with ginger, garlic, onion, tomatoes and freshly ground spices ($11.50)

·         Dal Makhani - whole black lentil and red kidney beans cooked overnight on tandoor and finished in a mild, creamy butter sauce ($9.50)

WHAT WE ATE...

I chose the ‘Malai Kofta - cottage cheese dumplings served in a rich, nutty gravy ($11.95)’. Unfortunately, the curry was very sweet with no heat. I prefer the Malai Kofta up the road at Chimes. I will try a different curry next time that has more of a kick.

My dining companion opted for the ‘Kadhai Chicken - chicken cooked in a house made onion and tomato based gravy with freshly ground spices and green capsicum ($12.95)’. You could taste the spices in the curry and the chicken was tender.

We also ordered some ‘Garlic Naan - naan served with homemade garlic butter ($2.50)’…

And some ‘Saffron Rice - basmati rice infused with saffron ($2.95)’. 

OVERALL…

Next door to BEN Coffee+kitchen is Cloves. Cloves is an Indian restaurant that offers a wide variety of vegetarian dishes as well as curries for the carnivores... The décor is modern with candlelit tables and the menu is very affordable. The service was okay but it would be better if they had asked how spicy we wanted our curries. The restaurant is quite petite so I suggest booking ahead.
