Café AMBA, South Yarra

WHAT’S ON THE MENU?
·         Mixed Berries French Crepes – warm mixed berry compote and fresh strawberries with vanilla ice-cream ($13.00)
·         Breakfast Burger – toasted brioche bun with bacon, fried egg, rocket, tomato, cheddar, tomato relish and hash brown ($15.00)
·         AMBA Spiced Baked Beans – slow cooked mixed beans with Asian spices, sautéed spinach, goats cheese and a poached egg ($15.00)
·         Lemon Pepper Calamari – lightly fried, seasoned calamari served with chips and house made chipotle aioli ($14.50)

WHAT WE ATE...
I ordered the ‘Battered Fish – golden fried flathead served with chips and house made lemon mayo ($15.00)’. Not one, not two, not three… but four pieces of flathead! A very bountiful serve indeed. The batter was golden and crunchy and the chips were great too. The dressed and seasoned rocket added freshness to the dish.

My dining companion decided to have the ‘Supreme Chicken Burger – toasted brioche, marinated chicken breast strip, baby cos lettuce, tomato, smashed avocado and chipotle aioli served with chips and tomato sauce ($16.00)’. This was a gigantic burger with plenty of smashed avocado and tender chicken strips.

After our lunch, we were brought over some cakes to try. The chocolate mousse cake had a beautiful white chocolate flower on top. The flourless orange cake was moist and refreshing.

WHAT WE DRANK...
I thought I would try one of AMBA’s fresh juices. I chose the ‘Strawberry, carrot and apple juice ($7.00)’ which was scrumptious!

My dining companion’s latte ($3.70) made with Small Batch Coffee was delicious.

Afterwards we tried a Pour Over coffee ($6.00) also made with Small Batch Coffee. You could really taste the mulled wine notes and the overall sweetness.

OVERALL…
We were invited to try Café AMBA’s Winter Menu which is located over the road from the Jam Factory in Chapel Street. Café AMBA has a very affordable menu and includes some fortnightly specials. As a professional gardener by day, I loved the gorgeous fuchsias painted across the wall... Upstairs is an elegant function room whilst outside is a heated courtyard. The service was friendly and knowledgeable and we really enjoyed our time at Café AMBA.
